Posted on: April 13th, 2008 Why say “NO” to Flickr Video?

The internet is awash with petitions to remove video from Flickr. As of this writing, the Flickr group We Say NO to Videos on Flickr has 27,000 members, the No Video on Flickr!!! group has 11,500, the No to Videos on Flickr petition has 865 “signatures.”
I, for one, am impartial to this controversy.
Father Mckenzie, administrator of the We Say NO to Videos on Flickr group, has even commented that “some people [are] disrupting threads with stupid comments.” I find it ironic that his group members are also spamming other groups with their crusade.
And yes, while he did correctly point out that videos are not included in Flickr Pro’s Description of Service, it also does not say that videos are prohibited.
So here’s the thing:
If you don’t want to watch any videos, then don’t.
If you don’t want to upload any videos, then don’t.
If you are worried that videos will attract junk into Flickr, then you probably haven’t been going beyond your circle of friends because junk already exists in Flickr. Even pornography is available in Flickr.
